1. Treasury targets Los Cachiros drug trafficking organization in Honduras

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced this morning the designation of seven individuals and five businesses tied to the Honduran drug trafficking organization, Los Cachiros. This action marks the U.S. Government's second action against Los Cachiros in four months. In May 2013, the President identified Los Cachiros as a significant foreign narcotics trafficking group pursuant to the Kingpin Act.

2. Public Ministry seized assets in north of Honduras

Today, Public Ministry and Police seized assets with a value of at least 10 billion lempiras (USD 489,476,260) in several operations in San Pedro Sula and Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortés; Tocoa and Bonito Oriental, Colón, north of Honduras, including business, houses, farms, cars, bank accounts and a zoo. The Honduran businesses targeted today are directed, owned, or controlled by members of Los Cachiros, according to USA Ambassador in Honduras, Lisa Kubiske.

3. Three women die in a fire in Comayagua

Three women, members of the same family, died this thursday early in the morning in Los Lirios neighborhood, Comayagua, when their house burn down, report the Firemen Department in that city.
The victims were identified as: Florencia Guzmán García (41 years old), Mariela Florencia Alvarenga Gúzman (19) and Hilda Vanesa Alvarenga Guzmán (13).

4. Businessman died in car accident

Honduran businessman Víctor Mauricio Ghattas Humut, owner of shirts factory Nino Mori, died this thursday in a car accident in Amarateca, north of Tegucigalpa. According to police officers, Ghattas crashed his vehicle into a truck that was parked on the side of the CA-5 high road because mechanical breakdown.

5. Honduras, 84th in World Happiness Report

Honduras ranked 84th of 130 countries in World Happiness Report published by Columbia University. The report reflects a new worldwide demand for more attention to happiness and absence of misery as part of government policy. The happiest countries in the world are Denmark, Norway, Finland and Netherlands.
